POMPENBURG DEVELOPMENT NEIGHBOURHOOD TO BE FULLY REINTEGRATED IN CITY CENTRE

The area surrounding the old Hofplein station, known as Pompenburg, is set to be transformed into an attractive corner of Rotterdam. As the urban link between the city centre and Rotterdam Noord, Pompenburg will become a lively neighbourhood with housing, offices, restaurants and bars, a cinema and three new landscaped squares. Now completed, the largest share of the development plan is earmarked for housing. It provides for four residential tower blocks offering between 800 and 1,100 apartments to rent or buy, including at least 50% subsidized and mid-market housing.

Before the Second World War, Pompenburg was the bustling heart of Rotterdam, home to the old Hofplein line station and Café Loos. It never completely recovered after the war and became a forlorn and forgotten piece of Rotterdam. At this time, with the development of Pompenburg, that’s about to change.
