Humans of Central District: Joost van der Hout (Premier Suites)

The 104 service apartments of Premier Suites are a stone's throw away from Rotterdam Central station and the metro station of the same name. The guests, who sometimes stay for months, get to Amsterdam Schiphol Airport in half an hour with the Intercity Direct train. Metro and bus infrastructures ensure that Rotterdam The Hague Airport can also be reached within half an hour. Could it be any more centrally located?

“The Rotterdam Central District (RCD) is not just easily accessible by public transport, but various facilities are within close walking distance,” says Joost van der Hout of Premier Suites. “Our apartments all have a full kitchen, but some guests prefer to eat out every night. Ayla just around the corner is very nice, and so is De Harmonie at the end of Westersingel. People who are here for a weekend are especially likely to go into the city. Our motto is “Bringing home a little closer” for a reason: if our guests want to have breakfast or dinner at home, we get the groceries for them. Yes, they still have to cook themselves.” “It is a joy to cycle to work from my house in Rotterdam South over the Erasmus Bridge. The view of the skyline is very nice on the bridge and upon arrival the train station is magnificent to look at. I often share this experience with our guests. What could be nicer than walking to Veerhaven via the Westersingel with its statues.

“I see RCD working hard to improve the ground floors. Making it look more like a megalopolis at the eye level. The area still has too much of an office district look with its draped windows. It could be more open, more spacious. A nice addition in the coming years would be green terraces and increased diversity of the catering businesses.”
